Blogger

Happiness is...

The modern technology of blogger. For the second time this year, I have been able to write a few days ahead of time so life didn't have to take a time out to blog. This resolution has been important to me, and it has certainly taught me a lot. But it will not interrupt life.

And maybe that's happiness in its purist form.

Six weeks left

Happiness is...

Persistence.

Every year, we make lofty goals for January 1st. Exercise regularly. Journal. Travel. Identify one thing every day that makes me happy. This year, I was determined. I did not neglect my dreams, nor did I forget my little resolutions. Since the beginning of 2011 I have headed off on my own, started graduate school, lost ten pounds, visited old friends, and kept this blog going the whole time. Sure, I've had to make up lost days here and there. It hasn't always been creative or poignant. Some days, I spend more time trying to think of something happy than writing my post.

But I have kept at it. And six weeks from today, I will no longer be writing this. I will have moved on. It's not likely that next year's resolution will be bigger or better (365 days of happy was beyond grueling), but I will enter the new year knowing that, if I wanted it to be, it could. I have learned more about myself, have documented the simple ups and downs of my year, and have found the little things. With six weeks to go, I couldn't be happier.

You...

Happiness is...

You. Yes, you, reading this entry today. I recognize that there are hundreds of millions of people out there browsing things on the internet, but I know you're following along with my story. And I love you for that.

I love you for that, and for so many other reasons. Just remember your importance, whenever you're in doubt. I value you. It's just that plain and simple. You are more than a somebody.

New Album

Happiness is...

Posting photos to facebook.
Yes, I am that vain that I want to show you every moment from my weekend. I love being tagged in pretty pictures and I like commenting on the events as I look back with nostalgia (even if they were just 48 hours ago).

In case you didn't already hear, I love photography. But I'll take it one step further. I love public photography, displaying my shots, and sharing my memories. I love when others can see how awesome my life is, in short.

Mostly, though, I love photography.

In this immediate, internet world it is so easy to go through the motions and become completely anonymous. Then someone takes you off guard and writes back. It's a little beacon of hope---"I see you, I know you're there... And I'm here too!"

Comments are a sweet reminder that you matter, at least to somebody. So thanks, somebody :)

Advocacy

Happiness is...

A little bit of advocacy. This week class asked me to start an advocacy project. In the interest of time, viability, and fun, I started a blog for youth with brain injuries. Check it out: My blog

I suffered a brain injury in 2008. But I barely even feel like I suffered. That's why it's so cool to learn more about it and define the parameters of my true feelings. For now, please consider following along (and participating if you have a chance). We'll see if I make an impact. Then again, it goes back to this blog... you never know.

Resolution, still on.

Happiness is...

Keeping up with resolutions. Am I perfect? Definitely not... but I am 9 months in and I haven't forgotten quite yet. At least, I don't forget all the time.

I'm not sure the impact this journey has had on me. At times I feel like the only thing it means for my day is a waste of 5 minutes while I sit down and pound the keyboard. However, it's gotten me thinking. And who knows who I've made smile or what small things I've come to cherish. For more projects see: 1000 Awesome Things, Happiness Project, Postsecret, 365 Things to Do in the Twin Cities... Mine may not be that colossal, but it certainly keeps me on track.

Friends who write

Happiness is...

Friends who write. Blogging is an art that I am certainly no expert at (in case yohttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifu didn't already know), but I have several friends whose blogs I respect completely. They provide a little subtle inspiration, a few choice words, and a heck of a good read.

For example, today, this one.

I like to look at blogs who lay it all out in a simple manner, and allow the internet to be what it was made for: easy. There are few things in modern society that are. Shame.

Due to her, and others in my life, I am Happy.

Tumblr

Happiness is...

Tumblr. Why didn't I think of this earlier? My happiness blog could even be prettier... haha. OR I could use it to post the random finds from my afternoon with the interwebs. I suppose I'll do that, then.

If you didn't know, tumblr is a neat little social networking tool for links, photos, text, quotes, and all things amazing. It's a very interesting community to be a part of, and I am still completely and utterly confused after several hours on it. Yikes.

Mother's Day

Happiness is...

Mothers. And Mother's Day. And doing things for someone who's always done everything for you. And love love love.

Simple as that.

On a side note, why can't I seem to remember my daily post lately? I ask for your deepest forgiveness, all. As if there is someone besides me who takes interest in this blog.

Weekend

Happiness is...

The weekend.

In fact, it's so great that I continually neglect my blogging. Sorry guys.

There are more important things in life...
like... happiness?

Post from a friend

Happiness is...

Simple words from good friends:

If you want to be happy -- choose to be.

If you dwell on negativity your life is going to be just that.

If you smile on the world, it WILL smile back.

Enjoy the little things, they may be gone someday (People included).

Do the things that you want to do, because you are in charge of your own life, and if you let other people determine your decisions you may live in regret someday.

Spend time with the people who lift you up, bring laughter to your lips, and who you cannot live without.

Don't over-complicate things. Things are already as complicated as they need to be.

When things get overwhelming and you feel like life is falling apart, remember your blessings - don't focus on the curses.

Remember no one has control over your life but YOU. Make the best of it.

Be content but always strive for more.

Don't be complacent or think you know it all, you always have something to learn.

When you are upset by someone - put yourself in their shoes, try to see their perspective - This will give you the much needed outside view.

Don't wish away any moment, you will never get it back.

Keep it simple, and always remember "Life will go on" regardless of the circumstance.

SMILE no matter what, it makes a difference.

All credit goes to my dear friend Rebecca, who brought sincere and pure happiness into my evening through a tactful, thoughtful blog post. Thank you for sharing the happy!

Day 50

Happiness is...

This daily affirmation of the things in life to be grateful for.

"Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have."

This is the entire reason I do what I do. It's been 50 days since I started the project, and it only gets better. There is something special about putting in the time to acknowledge every small thing that makes me happy. It multiplies, and I am exponentially happier. Everybody has a reason for the things they are passionate about... I have many reasons to love my life, to be passionate about a vast array of fulfilling things. And I am.

Happiness is this.

Blogs

Happiness is...

Postsecret... and all other amazing blogs. How do I waste time? I browse all of the various sites that I adore and remind myself of all the happy in the world.

Someday I want to be one of those blogs. We'll see if it ever happens.
