Happiness is...
Mimosas. Orange juice and champagne, whose idea was that?
What a brilliant way to start the morning. Thank you, whoever.

No alarm
Happiness is...
Setting no alarms. Yes, my biological clock still gets me up well before 8 a.m., but it's a big change from being rudely awakened by a blaring alarm at 7 or 7:30. There's just something special about a natural morning. I remember more of my dreams, wake up in a calm, and just generally start the day out right.
This will be the trend for the next four days. It's a welcome change from the usual in grad school, and it's the perfect way to celebrate the holiday.

Headbands
Happiness is...
Headbands.
Bad hair day? Forget about it. Throw one on and get out there.

Book lights
Happiness is...
Book lights. No one awake? No problem. I can have my own little midnight party in the corner of the tent. I mean, it's not exactly a party when you're using the wee hours to read your graduate textbooks, but I like the feeling of getting it done regardless. So, sleep on, world. I won't disturb. I'll push the little toggle and read by the solitary little bulb of my companion. Good morning!

Sun salutations
Happiness is...
Sun salutations. I'm sure I've already discussed my love for yoga, but I'd like to reiterate the benefit of waking up and doing a few sun salutations. Before anything, I like to ground myself, clear my mind, and prepare for the day. That's one more reason I love yoga.

coffee (again)
Happiness is...
The second cup of coffee. Bring on my Sunday, I've got jitters to last to the end of the day! The first cup of coffee sure is nice and relaxing, but by the second cup I begin to feel like I can conquer anything.
No third. That's where I stop.
Disclaimer: technological difficulties stopped this from posting yesterday, my apologies!

Quiet mornings
Happiness is...
This fresh Sunday morning. Sitting around in my peaceful apartment, enjoying my time, and for once in my week not being disrupted by the heffalumps upstairs.
Let me back up for a second. They're not actually the size of heffalumps, so that's not entirely fair. Or maybe that's why it bothers me even more, because I know the stomping and running and giggling that permeates my bedroom can be helped. Do you need to take 14 trips to the bathroom at 10pm? Certainly not. Do you need to stomp up your stairs screaming to the people you left in the parking lot at 1am? Dear God no. But you do it all anyway.
So yes, Ms. Creak-creak-bang-slam, I look forward to my Sunday mornings. Because they're all I've got to hold on to my sanity. They're my only escape from the echo of your bed frame or the pounding of your shower. Ahhh, sweet release.

Productivity
Happiness is...
Early mornings to get things done before work. I thought I'd hate working at 10am, but instead I get to continue waking up at 7 or 7:30 and just having an extra couple hours to get my stuff together before the day begins. It's a little liberating.
Today I finally organized the last of my stuff in my new place, so it feels like home at last. That's an amazing feeling!

waking up before the alarm
Happiness is...
When you wake up two minutes before your alarm. This morning, that was the case. I rolled over and opened my eyes, with perfect timing, and never had to have the ringing in my ears. When your biological clock is set right, that is bliss. When you don't have to snooze and snooze and snooze some more, it's a relief. And when you bounce out of bed rejuvenated like this, nothing can get your down. Today is a good day already... and I've barely even started yet!

Ellen
Happiness is...
Ellen Degeneres.
Comedian, Actress, and most importantly TV Host. Today was a rare day when I was still poking around at home around 9am, so I was able to catch the Ellen show. With Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga, it was a great choice for my morning. After that hour, nothing could get me down! She's won thirteen emmys for a reason.
I think there are few shows on television today with great characters and a good message. Ellen is awesome because she can make my gut hurt from laughter, or she can touch my heart. Plus, she's got great celebrity friends! I'll never be that cool, so for now I'll just settle for being a loyal fan.
And, if you didn't hear, she's moving to afternoon this fall to take Oprah's place. That's right, my Ellen will be the new Oprah! <3

awake with time to spare
Happiness is...
Extra time in the morning. Time to wake up, time to be me. Today, there's plenty.
So many people awake to late alarms and rush around the house. Not I. I prefer to wake up with ample time to get on my game, eat breakfast (yum!) and dawdle in the morning. So what if I miss that extra 20 minutes of sleep? I get to savor the joy of the early dawn, birds chirping, quiet breeze. And this is all coming from someone who is absolutely NOT a morning person to boot.
There's just something to be said about quiet. Reflection. Time. Breakfast.

Great start to the day
Happiness is...
When you turn on the car and the first thing on the radio is a song that makes you smile. It's God's little way of saying, "Good morning, have a great day!"
And I will.

Googling
Happiness is...
Googling yourself. Today, I searched me... and I was pretty pleased with the results! I like to do it every 3-4 months to make sure there isn't a horrible website defacing my reputation (not that anyone out there actually cares enough about me to invest the time in that caliber of slander). Today, it's clean, and pretty impressive to be frank. They say that future employers often check in on you through a simple google search of your name. What comes up when you search yourself?
Facebook should not. LinkedIn should. Positive articles and awards and honorable mentions and the likes... I'm still figuring it all out, but I think my search comes up with some pretty awesome hits.

Jack Frost, my man
Happiness is...
The perfect frost.
One of the most commonly dreaded things in the wee hours of the winter mornings is waking up and pulling the covers down from your ears. Roll your heavy legs off the side of the bed and lift off! You can be as bleary eyed as you like for now, because soon you will step out to the perfect frost.
That's right. It's the kind of frost that leaves a few lingering clouds at ground level, so you can't quite see the other side of the world yet.
It's the kind of frost that has left your car iced over, in a delightful manner. You can take out your windshield scraper and watch it flake away in even strips, as if you were peeling a fresh, juicy apple.
It's the kind of frost that leaves beautiful little crystals on the trees. No, not enough to make you shiver, but enough to leave you in awe of the magic around you when you look around the neighborhood. The frost on the branches lights up your morning, if nothing else.
Yes, it's a wonderful kind of frost. And it's one more beautiful sign of spring. That's right, in case you haven't heard enough, I'll tell you one more time how excited I am that spring is arriving.
Goodbye ice, hello frost.
