Happiness is...
Reflecting on all the things I have to be thankful for.
A
great graduate assistantship. Free schooling. Savings. Awesome
coursework. Good grades. A cozy home. A nice car. Some stellar friends.
My loving family. A patient and caring man. An upcoming trip,
all-inclusive, to a tropical island. A year with VISTA that changed me
for the better. Two adorable cats. Two sizeable closets. A passion for
yoga. Knitting. Christmas music. Ellen Degeneres. Jesus Christ. Peanut
Butter and Jelly. Losing weight. Silver nail polish. Office supplies.
Coffee. Pinterest. Chocolate. Glee. Dinosaurs. Skype.
Everything that I have already posted and have yet to post on my 2011 blog of happiness. I shan't take it for granted.

Celebrations
Happiness is...
Thanksgiving dinners on days besides Thanksgiving.
Tonight I celebrated with the office. We all brought a dish to share, enjoyed each others' company, and engaged in rowdy games and conversation. It felt like family. In grad school, when you see family every 6 weeks or so (if you're lucky), this can be invaluable.
There isn't much I love more than holidays... except, perhaps, the chance to celebrate them multiple times. Food on!

Answered prayers
Happiness is...
Answered prayers.
If He answers prayers, He's increasing faith.
If He delays, He's increasing patience.
If He doesn't answer, He has something better for you.
Well, I'm the lucky one who got my faith! My life is yours, Lord.

Life lessons
Happiness is...
Learning important life lessons without significant consequences. They say it's best to learn from mistakes, but I disagree, slightly. We could all benefit if we learned from near-misses. You end up much more grateful that things worked themselves out and won't take it for granted! Example: try almost losing something, or misplacing it entirely for a few hours... when you rediscover it, not only will it be that much more valuable, but you'll be that much more careful with it. Lesson learned. Thank you, last night.

Hotel Service
Happiness is...
Hotel service. A fresh towel and turned down sheets? Yes please! You can even order food to be delivered, or ask for a razor if you forgot yours. Is it okay if I stay here forever, instead of going back home where I have to make my own bed and clean up after myself? Hmmm.... if only. Ta-ta for now.

Windows down
Happiness is...
Driving with the windows down. Perhaps it's necessary when the A/C is broken, but it's also entirely liberating! I love the feeling that spring is here and I can at last feel the wind in my hair. This afternoon I was able to enjoy every ray of sunshine and the breeze of the highway. Volume up, window down, arm out, smile on. What a way to commute. I even got to take a nice long walk in the sunshine. A perfect time for my gym membership to expire, when the weather is at its peak (let's hope it doesn't get blistering hot to off set the horrible cold winter, ugh Minnesota). Off to dinner, hamburgers, on the grill! Yay spring time <3 <3 <3

Happy they're happy
Happiness is...
Being appreciated for the work I do. The life of a volunteer coordinator is filled with highs and deep lows, and often I can get bogged down. I take things seriously. I get very invested and very discouraged by the regular ebb and flow.
I take a lot of responsibility for recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining my volunteers. When it doesn't work well, it pretty much sucks.
But then there are the volunteers who make a point to tell you on their way out the door, "it has been such a pleasure working with you, you have a great program here and I am having fun!" Things that make the work worth it: people who see what you have done for them and are happy that you took the time. Without them, I just wouldn't. So, thank YOU for continuing to come, and for brightening my day while you're at it!

Noon.
Happiness is...
NOON.
Looking at the clock, seeing that it's lunch time, and acknowledging that the day is half over already. You may be feeling a little listless, but at least you don't have to worry about it THAT much longer. Realistically speaking, at least. Thank the lord... it's just another manic monday.

Fries!
Happiness is...
Sweet potato fries.
Seriously, folks, is there anything better? So delightfully crispy, and the best of all sensations. Turn the oven on 400. Bake. The smell wafts through the kitchen, and you stare into the face of a beautiful creation.
Mouth, meet fry.
Thank you lord.
