Giving gifts

Happiness is...

Giving gifts. Sure, I stress for a few days about what to get someone. But after a little thoughtful shopping and some nice crisp wrapping paper, all that awaits is their receiving of my present, and the joy that's on their face when they open it and find something that spoke to me about them.

I love presents. They're a little token of personal affection, and they are way better than me just splurging on an impulsive desire. A simple reminder of love, hope, and family. Gifts. Merry Christmas!

God bless us, every one.

Raspberries

Happiness is...

Fresh raspberries. The greatest thing about going home for a weekend is that your parents may take pity on you and supplement your cupboards. Monday afternoon Mom gave me raspberries. That's even better than I had hoped! So all in all I was productive with schoolwork, finished a couple loads of laundry, stocked up on food, and came home with special treats. Happy Labor Day to me!

One downfall: seeds. But that's nothing compared to the juicy, fresh, sweet taste of those little berries. They're so refreshing and so delicious. Lunch is that much more amazing in the middle of my long day.

Brunch

Happiness is...

Brunch! The best meal comes in two, and brunch is a combination of my favorites. Breakfast + Lunch = Awesome. Omelettes, fruit, and desert, all in and late morning. It is always delicious and often filling.

Today brunch is even better. I get to share it with my family. I missed this.

In short...

Sorry I'm behind, but I can tell you one thing: Happiness would not exist if I didn't have the amazing family and friends that I do. Simple enough. You must get it.

Mother's Day

Happiness is...

Mothers. And Mother's Day. And doing things for someone who's always done everything for you. And love love love.

Simple as that.

On a side note, why can't I seem to remember my daily post lately? I ask for your deepest forgiveness, all. As if there is someone besides me who takes interest in this blog.

Easter

Happiness is...

A relaxing holiday with the whole family.

The day started with a cup of coffee and a quiet morning on the porch. Church was warm and welcoming, as usual. Our Easter dinner included pineapple glazed ham, salad, potatoes, green beans, rolls, jello salad, AND orange poppyseed cake.

And yes, I got to eat the cake. TGIEASTER! Lent is over and chocolate is back <3

Oh yeah, and we got to sit around and catch up and play games. Watch a movie and cuddle up. Spend some time just plain sitting around. What an afternoon.

Happy Easter... He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

Flowers

Happiness is...

Knowing that no matter what happens, you have a strong support system of people who love and believe in you. Today he showed it by sending me flowers. Not much needed to be written on the card for it to be a gentle reassurance.

I am loved. And sometimes, that's enough. The flowers will wilt but my spirit will soar (I hope) through this period of unknown.

it only takes a word

Happiness is...

The perfect words to brighten your morning.

"Good morning beautiful"

"My arms felt empty without you"

"Did you sleep well darling?"

"Thinking of you"

If there is something simple to put a little jump in my step, it's getting up on the right side of the bed. This includes a hearty breakfast, new, a nice outfit, good hair day, and words of encouragement.

How lovely it is to be loved.

You are loved.

Happiness is...

Dried flowers. Don't throw them away when they start to look a little sad, hang them up and preserve the memories! I still have roses from high school plays, congratulations from my parents, bouquets from special weddings, and the flowers that made me feel a part of my sorority. Flowers are more than a sweet thought, they're more than a special occasion, they're something to cherish... often times for years to come.

Take in the fragrant perfume of your flowers. Admire the vibrant colors. Hold them dear. And then preserve them. Put them in a vase and keep a spot in your heart for each unique flower that stands the test of time.

Cliche or not, flowers are one of the best reminders of just how special you are. Remind yourself, daily, of this fact. You are a brilliant, strong, and beloved person. Remember all of the people in your life who love you and cherish you. You are amazing. Look back on old keepsakes (or flowers) and reflect on just that.

The game.

Happiness is...

My mother's white chili, and my new love. White beans, corn, wild rice, chicken, peppers, broth, and wonder. It's one of my new favorites and it's a pretty random find on her part. But congratulations mom.

We had it for the super bowl "party" last night, and it made it better than any party I could have single-handedly thrown.

What a good game it was. :)
