In the old days, they produced records. One artist, one album.
By the time the 70s and 80s came around, people were making mix tapes of their favorite songs. Compilations came out. Now. Best of. Radios played the top 40 and a mix of 80s, 90s, and today.
And then CDs... and the current trend, in Pandora or Spotify or Itunes or LastFM or whatever your favorite service is. Why choose one artist or one album, ever? Go ahead, round up your favorite tunes. Listen to some variety. Keep yourself on your toes. Find the perfect playlist. Now THAT is music to my ears.

Pirates. I love dreadlocks, and flowy shirts, and sword fights, and booty...

Radio
Happiness is...
Streaming radio. It no longer matters that I am in graduate school 85 miles away from home... with modern technology and a good attitude, I can still listen to my favorite morning show, tune in for the best music, and rock out to what I am loyal to. That's the way I like it!
Besides, there's no good music in this town anyway. Thank you internet!

Free tickets!
Happiness is...
All things free. Tonight, it's Miranda Lambert concert tickets. It makes the event so much better to know that it was gifted to you, purely for your enjoyment! After a long week in class and class all day today (yes, a seven hour Saturday class is a part of my grad school experience) this is just what the doctor ordered! Girls night with country music and a few drinks perhaps? I'll take it.
Tomorrow I can get back to reality. But for tonight I'd just like to pretend that I don't have to be studious and responsible. Bring it on.

CD Sharing.
Having a bad day? I can recommend some pick me ups. OR I can hand you a CD that's always worked for me. There's nothing like it. When you have someone who has a bad day, pass it on. That's what one of my good friends did for me... and now I have who-knows-whose CD. But it fulfills its purpose when it puts that smile on my face...

Underwear
Happiness is...
Underwear. Tonight we went to the history center for a free outdoor concert and while we were there we checked out the exhibits... about the depression, minnesota, and underwear. It was interesting to see how far we've come in the last century, and my appreciation for it grew tenfold! I gave my underwear far too little credit. It comes in all shapes and sizes, many fabrics, and wonderful colors. That's my story, in brief... ;)
Speaking of outdoor concerts, did I mention my affinity for them? I sure will miss summer in the cities.

iPod Touch
Happiness is...
My new iPod touch. Yes, I am that nerd. I just bought it as a reward to myself for a great year of work (school ends in a week and a half) and I have been playing all weekend. Free apps, games, facebook, music, photos. I couldn't ask for more.
I don't have an iPhone. In fact, I am planning to continue paying practically nothing for cell service...mwahaha. However, I sincerely enjoy my new gadget anyway. Touch, I'd put in a good word for it. Not bad at all...
My current favorite: cut the rope.
Any recommendations?

Live music
Happiness is...
Live music. It quickly brings a smile to my face. Like tonight, with miss Naomi Marie.
We spent a little time heading out to Minneapolis and settling down in the coffee shop. But once we were there my head was bobbing, my legs were pumping, and my soul lit up. I know this girl... the one with that incredible talent that makes your heart sing. Yes, that is where happiness must lie.

Avenue Q
Happiness is...
Puppet Musicals. I made it to Avenue Q last night, and it was everything I dreamed of. The puppets shared the exact outfits with their cast members which made it adorably fluid. One puppet was so large it took the entire back side of someone, head to toe, and he had to operate it in reverse.
And the songs..."What do you do with a B.A. in English?", "It Sucks to Be Me", "If you were gay", "Purpose", "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist", "The Internet is for Porn"...
It was like an adult version of Sesame Street, and I was like a child on the edge of my seat. Bring on more Avenue Q!

Extended episodes

Extended episodes.
Just when I was beginning to enjoy the show, I realized that it was just the start. Good things should be extra long, after all. Neckties, bedsheets, candy bars. And feel-good television shows like GLEE.
I don't care what you say, GLEE has outstanding cast. Their soundtrack is unbeatable. The plot may leave a little something to be desired, but I am totally and completely in love. And tonight I got to hold on for just another half hour. Rock on.

Whether you feel like Jason Mraz, Dispatch, Guster, or even if you'd prefer Journey, there is a special place where you can zone back in and get things done.
That's awesome.

Disney
Happiness is...
Disney. What else can get your mind off of the cruelty of life? Whether belting out the words to a Whole New World or quoting the best of Lion King, there will always be warmth in your heart and a twinkle in your eyes. And no, I am not being cheesy---it is 100% accurate.
Tonight we had a debate over whether Belle was, in fact, the most stellar princess... I mean, she reads! However, it was not very nice to yell at the beast, he has a complex.
Bottom line: I love Disney. Disney is the root of all happiness.

Wowza!
Happiness is...
The way the cd changer in your car will pick up RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT OUT. It's a brilliant thing, this car audio. Already, I liked it. Then I popped in a cd and I was not only able to get out for my milk and eggs, I was able to hop back in and start in the chorus again.
In fact, the chorus is my favorite part of this song.
One more time!
When else can you pick up like that? I mean, you can't easily stick a bookmark in it. You can't dog-ear a cd. But you can use it in your commute and come back to it at the end of a long work day.
As if cars weren't already the coolest things on Earth.

Happiness is...
Getting a good song stuck in your head for once.
Not only is it a reminder of the good times you've had in the vicinity of that tune, but it puts a bounce in your step that lasts the entirety of your afternoon. Thank God for music. More importantly, thank God that there is still so much quality music out there! I never have to be truly concerned for the world :)

Glee!
Happiness is...
Brand new episodes of Glee... it's about time too. I have been anxiously awaiting the return of their vocal splendor and awesome lives. And now it's here :) What other shows get to premiere immediately after the super bowl? The entire country gets it---Glee is where it's at, and it's back baby!
Yes, I'm a Gleek. And I don't care who knows! Don't even pretend to judge either, anyone who has something bad to say obviously doesn't know the greatness of the show. Convert now, before you miss out on some of the best renditions of lovely music.
