Lunch specials. A majority of restaurants have them. You know, for the business meetings or lunch breaks... which I don't have. Today, however, I get to meet for lunch and have a soup and salad special!

New and Improved
Happiness is...
A new and improved flavor of cheerios.
We all know breakfast is the best part of my day, and there isn't much that beats a good handful of cheerios. Apple Cinnamon. Banana Nut. Chocolate. Fruity. And now Cinnamon Burst. Oh joy.
I like trying new things. I have since studying abroad. It's the little things that make me smile. That's something I have to continue realizing as I complete this blog. This morning, it was a new flavor of cereal. I'll stop there for today.

Sharing
Happiness is...
Sharing. Tonight my roommate made a large meal, and I was invited to partake! It makes my life that much easier, and it draws the two of us closer together... I love sharing meals, that's one of the only issues living in a two-bedroom with someone so committed to her boyfriend.
Sharing is caring. "In its narrow sense, it refers to joint or alternating use of an inherently finite good", to distributing things as they should be, to dividing blessings for the larger good. The world should consider sharing a little more... for now I'll enjoy sharing with loved ones around me.

Raspberries
Happiness is...
Fresh raspberries. The greatest thing about going home for a weekend is that your parents may take pity on you and supplement your cupboards. Monday afternoon Mom gave me raspberries. That's even better than I had hoped! So all in all I was productive with schoolwork, finished a couple loads of laundry, stocked up on food, and came home with special treats. Happy Labor Day to me!
One downfall: seeds. But that's nothing compared to the juicy, fresh, sweet taste of those little berries. They're so refreshing and so delicious. Lunch is that much more amazing in the middle of my long day.

the Bump in its glory
Happiness is...
Creative baby ideas! Today is a gender reveal party for a good friend. Here's what she's doing:
At her ultrasound on Thursday she had the doctor write down the baby's gender and seal it in an envelope. She is bringing that envelope to a bakery and asking them to bake the appropriate color into the insides of a frosted cake, that way she'll find out when we do as she cuts her cake! How did I never think of that?
She is the size of a naval orange. That's one more thing about babies that I am really fascinated by. I love comparing them to the sizes of produce, and I can't wait to hear what's next! I wonder if I'm more excited about this baby than she is... In any case, here we go!

Brunch
Happiness is...
Brunch! The best meal comes in two, and brunch is a combination of my favorites. Breakfast + Lunch = Awesome. Omelettes, fruit, and desert, all in and late morning. It is always delicious and often filling.
Today brunch is even better. I get to share it with my family. I missed this.

Yellow Carrots?!
Happiness is...
Yellow carrots. I saw them in the produce aisle and had no clue what to expect, but I am back in college now and college is the time to experiment right? Hehe. Anyway, they're awesome. End of story. They taste an awful lot like orange carrots, and they apparently still have all the awesome nutrients. AND.... they're cheaper... and organic.
So, I've come full circle. I am no longer afraid of yellow, in fact I think I'll crunch into one right now!

Doggie bags
Happiness is...
When the leftovers taste even better than the original. Sure, this is rarely the case... But when it happens isn't it so satisfying? For a moment it nearly makes me want to eat everything from styrofoam and the microwave. Yum.

Blessed with friends
Happiness is...
The fact that even though things seem to be difficult, there will always be some friend who can help take the load off. Tonight I had a friend cook me dinner knowing that I couldn't do it for myself (this damn apartment!). And that's all it takes to know that God is watching over me, even when the going gets tough.
It's not a great time in my life. But He keeps reminding me there are great things to hold on to! Thank you Sir.

Bananas
Happiness is...
Eating my bananas without feeling self-conscious. Yes, I am that girl who has to turn the other way so you don't watch the act. Bananas, hot dogs, popsicles, they make me feel awkward automatically.
Is that weird? Am I alone in this world?
Or did the movies really just screw me up that much?
Drives me bananas sometimes... ;)

Thai food
Happiness is...
Thai food. Any foreign food really.
Every time I go to another country I try to experience something new. Unfortunately, I can't afford to go to another country for a while. Instead, I settle for little restaurants in the city. I love foreign food because it gives a flavor beyond my normal pallet and it gives me the tiniest glimpse into another life.
We got thai. And I had enough leftovers to enjoy it for 2 days! Incredible.

Thai Food.
In fact, I love all foreign food. But up there in my priorities is a good pad thai or pad see yew. Mmmm. Today we got some, and then we had the leftovers for dinner. What could be better than twice in a day?

Fruit salad
Happiness is...
When you get that bite of fruit salad that has the perfect proportion of everything. Fruit salad (or trail mix, or anything really) wasn't made to be so great. But you made it so anyway! Bravo.

Chickpeas
Happiness is...
Everything the chickpea can make. I love it all.
Salad toppings.
Hummus.
Falafel.
Curry.
Stew.
Socca.
Flour.
Falafel. (Oh, did I say that already?)
Alcohol? Betcha never knew.
Just plain chickpeas.
Chickpeas belong to many cultures, so I think we all agree they're awesome.

Great leftovers
Happiness is...
When you heat up leftovers and realize last night's dinner is just as amazing the second time around. Rock on.

Salty and Sweet!
Happiness is...
Salty desserts. The best of both worlds.
For example, a coworker brought in sea-salt brownies yesterday afternoon. If I didn't mind looking like a whale, I would eat the whole pan. There is something very special about having more than one taste sensation. Salty and Sweet is one of the best combinations, in fact. That is why everybody likes chocolate covered potato chips so much.
Excuse me? You've never had chocolate covered potato chips? Shame on you. Please tell me you'll at least take a bite of this sea-salt brownie.

Trail Mix
Happiness is...
Trail mix.
Eating a handful takes three times as long as any other possible snack... why? Because each bite tossed into my mouth must be the perfect combination of craisin, raisin, nut, chocolate, and all other surprises. That's why trail mix is so great. It gives each person complete power to choose the proportions.
Granted, some people just grab pieces of the mix at random, but that is excusable... they're simply inexperienced with the joys of what makes up the perfect mouthful, mixed to desire. One day, the whole world will know the wonders.

Easter
Happiness is...
A relaxing holiday with the whole family.
The day started with a cup of coffee and a quiet morning on the porch. Church was warm and welcoming, as usual. Our Easter dinner included pineapple glazed ham, salad, potatoes, green beans, rolls, jello salad, AND orange poppyseed cake.
And yes, I got to eat the cake. TGIEASTER! Lent is over and chocolate is back <3
Oh yeah, and we got to sit around and catch up and play games. Watch a movie and cuddle up. Spend some time just plain sitting around. What an afternoon.
Happy Easter... He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
