Movies

Happiness is...

Going to the movies.

It's been so long since I've done it. Between moving away from family and friends and Dave's deployment, going to grad school and getting totally swamped, theaters have fallen to the wayside. But no longer. It's time to rekindle my love for a big red seat, a tub of popcorn, and a moving picture. :)

It's one of my favorite outings. It makes me so happy. And I won't be neglecting it this season.

Piracy

Happiness is...

Pirates. I love dreadlocks, and flowy shirts, and sword fights, and booty...

But even more than all of that, I love today's pirates. They can warn you all they want, but the idea of stealing music and shows is just too glamorous. Ah, technology.

Animated awesome

Happiness is...

Children's movies. I love animation. And I extra love it when people burst into song. That's why I will hold on to Disney til the day I die. Luckily, they are still making a good one here and there... sure, they've evolved to computer animation and adult humor, but sometimes I strike gold and there's an all-ensemble song and dance. Today, I watched Rio. My head bobbing, a smile creeping across my lips, I felt like a child again. If I don't find another one like that I just might break out Aladdin and Little Mermaid on DVD. Yeah, that's the life... singing along to my movies, dreaming of being a princess too. Don't judge.

The Help

Happiness is...

The Help. It was an awesome movie!
Possibly more awesome was the applause that arose from the theater during the credits... Vati hypothesized that it was due to white guilt. Funny thing is, I turned around and scanned the room---100% caucasian. Maybe he's not so far off.
What kinds of thoughts do you have about civil rights? Do you honestly think you'd have the courage to take a stand if you were raised in those times?

This semester in grad school is a lot of self-awareness and reflection. It's spilling into other areas of my life now. Still, I find it interesting to think about...

So many things to be happy about.

Happiness is...

A million things. Friday marked six months of this blog, six months of finding the little things in life that make me happy. Six months of reminding myself what I'm grateful for. AND today marks fifteen months with Dave... all these months and I still am forgetting things. This weekend has been happy. Here's a glimpse:

Happiness is air conditioning. After a heat index of 111 at school, 250 kids, 6 hours, and no air, it was one of the things I was most looking forward to Friday afternoon. Heck, my car doesn't even have A/C. So when I arrived home it was truly glorious, and I appreciated it tenfold.

Happiness is 3D glasses, and popcorn with real butter. Get lost in the scene and Get full on buttery goodness. It's a good idea, and especially on those days of 111 heat index. ;)

Happiness is sugar free lattes...

Happiness is Bananagrams. Happiness is beginner's luck. Happiness is a nice afternoon with enough games to keep you busy. Happiness is enjoying summer without hours of television. Happiness is NOT goodbyes, but I'm ready.

Six months and six to go. Have a happy afternoon!

Red Box

Happiness is...

Movies for a dollar. It seems like an easy solution to a boring evening, and it spices up any date night. Walk into your nearest grocer's, step up to the red kiosk, scroll through the many disasters you wish were never put to film, and find the odd treasure. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Sometimes I get nostalgic for Mr. Movies or Blockbuster (yes, all movie stores in my zip code are officially closed) and then I save a couple bucks picking up a movie for the night. I don't even have to wander around the store to make my choice... Nor do I have to be tempted by the candy at the checkout. It's decided, I prefer my red box. Want one of your own? Try the codes DVDONME or BREAKROOM and go home with a good flick! mmmmmredboxyesplease...

Denzel

Happiness is...

Denzel Washington. We all know it, and I finally said it. He's a stud---eloquent, powerful, and stoic. Dearly beloved! There are several people that I have this kind of faith in, you know.

Tonight: Man on Fire. Feel free to tune in.

Disney

Happiness is...

Disney. What else can get your mind off of the cruelty of life? Whether belting out the words to a Whole New World or quoting the best of Lion King, there will always be warmth in your heart and a twinkle in your eyes. And no, I am not being cheesy---it is 100% accurate.

Tonight we had a debate over whether Belle was, in fact, the most stellar princess... I mean, she reads! However, it was not very nice to yell at the beast, he has a complex.

Bottom line: I love Disney. Disney is the root of all happiness.

TV

Happiness is...

TV on DVD. I live for the quiet afternoons when I can cuddle up and watch episode after episode of FRIENDS, House, Glee, or whatever will be the proper fix. Whoever thought to put all of the most amazing TV shows onto discs was positively brilliant. Movies are great, but a quick easy sitcom can really make my day.

It's the weekend!

Happiness is...

1.) Being a part of something I believe in. And finding success with others getting the news of such amazing things. I really love my job and it gives me life, especially on days like today!

2.) Spending an early Friday afternoon in the movies. I am really a lucky girl.

Sorry, folks. I am having a good day... and couldn't pick just one. Things will be more witty later.
Have a spectacular weekend!

New DVDs

Happiness is...

Receiving a new shipment of DVD goodness. Going shopping is fun and all, but there is something special about a delivery on your doorstep. Take out that knife, run it along the tape, pry open the box, and pull out the box set of Harry Potter years 1-6! Try and tell me that is not the epitome of happiness. :)
